JOLIET, IL – The Will County Sheriff’s Office has released the statistics from their recent Independence Day enforcement campaign, revealing a significant number of arrests and citations made.
A total of seven impaired driving arrests were conducted during this period. Alongside these, law enforcement officials reported three felony arrests, two suspended/revoked arrests, and 13 uninsured motorist arrests.
In their relentless pursuit of safer roads, officers issued 63 speeding citations and apprehended one individual for reckless driving. Moreover, the enforcement campaign led to 16 misdemeanor arrests, one illegal cell phone violation, six instances of individuals driving without a valid driver’s license, 25 other moving violations, and 16 non-moving violations.
This operation, aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all motorists, saw the collaboration of more than 200 state and local law enforcement agencies. Together, they worked diligently to remove drunk and impaired drivers from the streets, encourage seat belt usage, and enforce traffic laws, including cracking down on speeding violations.
To complement the high-visibility enforcement strategy, officials also conducted a comprehensive media campaign titled “It’s Not a Game.” Through this initiative, they aimed to raise public awareness about the risks associated with reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the Illinois Department of Transportation for funding the enforcement period through federal traffic safety funds. These funds were instrumental in supporting the law enforcement efforts and ensuring the success of the campaign.
