SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Department of Transportation today renewed its call for qualified individuals to step forward and apply for seasonal positions to help with snow-and-ice removal across the state. CHICAGO–The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced today that the unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in August, down 0.2 percentage point from the prior month, based on preliminary data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and released by IDES. The August unemployment rate was the lowest monthly unemployment rate for the state on record. Nonfarm payrolls were stable compared to the prior month, down -1,400 jobs. The July monthly change in payrolls was revised from the preliminary report (from -400 to +1,300 jobs).

Kankakee, IL – Economic Development Director Frank Koehler wrapped up his last day with the City of Kankakee today. Koehler is retiring after more than 45 years in local government, serving communities in Kankakee, McLean, Cook, Kane, Lake and Will Counties.
