Yuba River Canyon, CA – A coordinated multi-agency operation led to the successful rescue of a 3-year-old child abducted by his mother on Friday.

According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department, the mother allegedly assaulted the child’s father before fleeing into the Yuba River Canyon, east of Edwards’ Crossing Bridge. The child was the subject of an Amber Alert. Cal OES FIRIS 12, already in the area for a fire, located the mother and child and maintained surveillance as search and rescue (SAR) personnel approached.

The California Highway Patrol’s helicopter H-20 was called in to extract the child. The crew hovered low while a SAR team member handed the child to the helicopter crew. The child was transported to Diamond Arrow Landing Zone, where medical personnel checked him, provided snacks, and reunited him with his father.
