The Kankakee Public Library and Fortitude Community Outreach need your help! We are seeking specific donations to help the homeless in our community. Fortitude is a homeless outreach program who seek to help the neediest in our community by partnering with local churches and agencies to deliver food, clothing, information and moreon a weekly basis.
Springfield – The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) today announced that seniors and people with disabilities can begin applying for winter heating assistance on October 1st through the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP).
Jamie Pepin-Martin, 40, of Conway, AR, and formerly of Kankakee, passed away Monday, September 16, 2019. A celebration of life is from noon until 4:00 PM PM Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee.
“The City has been working with the State Fire Marshal, and a report has not come back yet. Until all reports are complete, any activity and all events have been suspended until further notice. Public safety is our number one priority.” says City of Kankakee Marketing and Communication representative Jasmine Humble.
“This is the second year we received a grant from First Alert for the public education campaign regarding the Illinois new 10 Year Smoke Detector Law. This year we have focused more on communities in the northeast portion of the state. Kankakee was chosen based on its population and geographic location. We are thrilled to have the enthusiasm of both the Mayor’s office, as well as, the Kankakee Fire Department behind our efforts,” said Margaret Vaughn, Government Affairs Director for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance.
