DE Police Arrest New Castle Man After Injuring Troopers

New Castle, DE – The Delaware State Police have arrested 39-year-old Nolan Lewis on multiple felony charges following a violent altercation during a traffic stop on Saturday, September 19, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. on North Dupont Highway near Hessler Boulevard.

According to police reports, troopers were patrolling the area when they observed a Mitsubishi Lancer operating without a visible registration plate. During the subsequent traffic stop, officers discovered the vehicle was unregistered, lacked insurance, and that Lewis allegedly had multiple active capiases issued by various Delaware courts.

As troopers attempted to take Lewis into custody, he allegedly resisted arrest and engaged in a physical struggle. During the confrontation, Lewis reportedly damaged both personal and state-owned property. Following his detainment, a search of the Mitsubishi revealed a large knife concealed inside the vehicle. Two troopers suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the struggle, and Lewis was also treated for injuries before being processed.

Lewis was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with several offenses, including two counts of felony assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and criminal mischief exceeding $1,000. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on a $7,000 secured bond, in addition to his previous capiases.
