Spokane, WA – A powerful atmospheric river will bring heavy rain and rising river levels across eastern Washington and northern Idaho this weekend, increasing flood risks.

According to the National Weather Service, rainfall from Saturday night through Monday could total 1.25 inches in lowlands and up to 2 inches in mountainous areas. Combined with rapid snowmelt, this will likely cause streams, rivers, and low-lying areas to flood. Paradise Creek in Moscow and the Little Spokane River near Dartford are expected to approach bankfull conditions by Sunday.

Residents should prepare for potential flooding, especially in areas prone to poor drainage. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through flooded roads. The heaviest rainfall will occur in two waves: late Saturday night and again on Sunday afternoon.

Temperatures will rise into the upper 40s and low 50s by Sunday and Monday before cooling midweek. Rain chances will decrease Tuesday, giving way to partly cloudy skies. By Wednesday, highs will reach the low 50s with drier conditions.
