Louisville, KY – A powerful storm system will drench Kentucky and southern Indiana this weekend, with 3 to 5 inches of rain expected through Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Louisville and surrounding areas as heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding and rising river levels.
According to the National Weather Service, rain showers will begin overnight and intensify Saturday, becoming heavy at times into Sunday morning. Thunderstorms could produce additional downpours, further increasing the flood risk. Residents near low-lying and flood-prone areas should monitor conditions and be prepared to take action if warnings are issued.
Temperatures will drop sharply Sunday evening as a cold front moves in, bringing gusty winds up to 40 mph. Monday, Washington’s Birthday, will be partly sunny but much colder, with highs only in the low 30s.
Looking ahead, an Arctic blast will grip the region next week, with bitter cold and possible snow midweek. Wind chills could fall below zero, making travel and outdoor activities hazardous.
