Madison, WI – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for much of southern and southeastern Wisconsin as snow moves into the region Friday evening. The National Weather Service warns of hazardous travel conditions, with snowfall impacting the evening commute and continuing into early Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin around 4 p.m. in south-central Wisconsin, including Madison, and spread eastward into Milwaukee by 6 p.m. Accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are expected, with heavier totals likely north of both cities. The heaviest snowfall, with rates of up to one inch per hour, will occur during a 2-3 hour window in the early evening.

Roads are expected to become slippery, especially during peak travel times. Officials advise drivers to slow down and use caution, particularly on highways and untreated surfaces.

Snow will taper off after midnight, with lighter flurries lingering into early Saturday. Travelers can check Wisconsin road conditions by calling 511.
