Chicago, IL – Trader Joe’s has issued a recall on select canned tuna products due to potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause severe food poisoning.

According to Tri-Union Seafoods, the supplier, the recall is a precautionary measure after a manufacturing defect was discovered in the “easy open” pull-tab lid. This defect could compromise the seal, potentially leading to leakage or contamination over time.

The affected Trader Joe’s tuna products were distributed in multiple states, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Kentucky, and Wisconsin. No illnesses related to the recalled products have been reported.

Consumers who purchased the recalled tuna should not consume it, even if it appears normal. They are advised to return the product to the retailer for a full refund or dispose of it immediately. Tri-Union Seafoods is offering a retrieval kit and a coupon for a replacement.

For further information or to request a replacement, consumers can contact Tri-Union Seafoods at [email protected] or call 833-374-0171, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
