Raleigh, NC – A round of thunderstorms is sweeping through central North Carolina overnight, bringing gusty winds, small hail, and heavy downpours. The National Weather Service warns that wind gusts could reach 40 mph, potentially knocking down tree limbs and unsecured objects. Storms are expected to move eastward into the Triangle and northern Coastal Plain through early Saturday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, the strongest storms have been tracked in Wake, Franklin, and Vance counties, with small hail reported. Rainfall totals are expected to remain under a tenth of an inch, though localized downpours could lead to minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Saturday will bring a major shift, with sunny skies and highs near 66°F. Winds will remain light, offering a pleasant day. Rain chances return Saturday night, though precipitation will be minimal. Sunday continues the warming trend, reaching 70°F with mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead, rain chances increase again Monday, with a 50% likelihood of showers and cooler temperatures in the low 40s. Travelers along I-40 should stay alert for wet roads and changing conditions. Residents should secure loose outdoor items and stay updated on forecasts.
