Albany, NY – A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of eastern New York, northwestern Connecticut, and western Massachusetts, warning of snow and ice accumulation from 4 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the affected areas include Litchfield County in Connecticut, Berkshire County in Massachusetts, and several counties in New York, including Greene, Columbia, Ulster, and Dutchess. Snowfall is expected to total between 1 and 3 inches, with ice accumulation around one-tenth of an inch.
The hazardous conditions are likely to create slippery roads, impacting both the morning and evening commutes. Motorists are urged to drive cautiously, reduce speed, and allow extra time for travel. Pedestrians should also be aware of icy sidewalks, stairs, and driveways.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel during peak snowfall and freezing rain. The National Weather Service recommends using extra caution when walking or driving, as untreated surfaces may become dangerously slick.
The winter weather advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday, with conditions expected to improve by the evening as temperatures moderate.
