Gurnee, IL – A wrong-way driver in a stolen SUV caused a three-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in Gurnee before resisting arrest, authorities said.

According to the Gurnee Police Department, officers responded to the crash at 5:22 a.m. near Washington Street and Frontage Road after an automated crash notification was received. Multiple 911 calls confirmed the incident involved three vehicles.

Investigators determined a 22-year-old woman from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, was driving a stolen white Land Rover southbound in the northbound lanes of Frontage Road, which also serves as an on-ramp to Route 41. The Land Rover collided head-on with a black Cadillac, triggering a secondary crash when a gray Toyota rear-ended the Cadillac.

Upon arrival, officers saw the Land Rover’s driver attempting to flee on foot. She later returned but refused to comply with commands, leading to a struggle before officers detained her. A police officer sustained a minor injury during the arrest but did not require hospitalization.

The driver of the Land Rover was transported to Vista Medical Center East for evaluation. The occupants of the Cadillac and Toyota, all from Waukegan, were uninjured.

Police said the Land Rover had been reported stolen in Wisconsin the previous evening. The crash remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
