Wilmington, NC – Residents across southeast North Carolina and northeast South Carolina are advised to prepare for potentially hazardous cold weather conditions starting tonight.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Cold Weather Advisory may be issued overnight Thursday and again on Friday night, as temperatures dip below freezing across several counties, including Robeson, Bladen, and Columbus in North Carolina, and Marlboro, Darlington, and Florence in South Carolina.
Officials caution residents to take preventative measures, such as protecting exposed pipes and ensuring pets and livestock are sheltered. Those venturing outside should wear layers to stay warm.
The advisory covers inland and coastal areas, including New Hanover and Brunswick counties in North Carolina and Horry and Georgetown counties in South Carolina. While exact temperatures haven’t been specified, such advisories typically signal conditions hazardous to sensitive populations, such as the elderly and young children.
The cold weather is expected to persist through early next week. Residents are encouraged to monitor local updates and stay prepared for further advisories.
Spotter activation is not anticipated at this time, but the public should remain alert to changing conditions.
