Raleigh, NC – Residents across central and eastern North Carolina are facing slick and hazardous roadways as winter weather conditions persist. With a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 7 a.m. Thursday, officials are urging caution during the morning commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Raleigh, light snow fell Tuesday night, leading to icy bridges and overpasses. A low of 19 degrees is forecast overnight, with wind chills as low as zero, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory through 10 a.m. Wednesday. Frostbite is a risk for those outdoors without proper protection.

Roads, including portions of I-40 and US-70, are expected to remain icy through Wednesday morning. Drivers are advised to reduce speed, allow extra travel time, and monitor conditions. Residents should also check on neighbors and avoid using generators or grills indoors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

The extended forecast shows improving conditions later this week. Raleigh can expect sunny skies Thursday, with a high of 38 degrees. Overnight lows will remain cold, around 24 degrees. Friday will bring mostly sunny skies and a high of 42 degrees, while Saturday sees a warm-up with a high of 45.
