Detroit, MI – Dangerous cold and lake effect snow continue to impact southeast Michigan today, with sub-zero wind chills and icy conditions. Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor activity as frostbite can occur within 30 minutes on exposed skin.

According to the National Weather Service, a cold weather advisory remains in effect through noon Wednesday. Wind chill values are expected to drop as low as -25°F to -20°F this morning, particularly along the I-94 and I-96 corridors. In addition, periodic lake effect snow showers could result in light accumulations of up to an inch, further complicating travel.

Tuesday’s high is forecast to reach just 8°F, with overnight lows plunging to -2°F. Conditions improve slightly Wednesday, as temperatures climb into the mid-teens with less severe wind chills around -15°F. Gusts may reach 20 mph at times, adding to the biting cold.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday bring a welcome warming trend, with highs reaching the mid-20s under mostly cloudy skies. By Saturday, temperatures are expected to rise to the low 30s, with dry conditions dominating the weekend.

Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on untreated roads, as blowing snow may reduce visibility. Residents are advised to check on neighbors, dress in layers, and ensure pets remain indoors. Portable heaters should be used with care to avoid fire risks.
