Wyoming Weather Alert: Wind Chills to Drop Below -45°F Through Tuesday Morning

Cheyenne, WY – Southeast Wyoming is under an Extreme Cold Warning through 11 a.m. Tuesday as dangerous wind chills between -30°F and -45°F threaten the region. These life-threatening conditions are expected to peak Monday morning with widespread frostbite and hypothermia risks.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Cheyenne, wind chills overnight Sunday and into Monday morning will fall as low as -45°F in areas such as Douglas, Lusk, and Wheatland. Other impacted locations include Kimball, Scottsbluff, and Alliance in western Nebraska. Temperatures will remain well below freezing through Tuesday morning, with wind chill values improving slightly but still hazardous.

Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, cover exposed skin, and ensure pets and livestock have shelter. Prolonged exposure can cause frostbite in minutes.

The NWS advises travelers to prepare emergency kits and delay travel if possible. Blustery conditions will persist into Monday night, with wind gusts up to 35 mph in some areas. Temperatures are expected to climb into the low 30s by Tuesday afternoon.
