Lake Charles, LA – A powerful cold front is expected to bring freezing temperatures to Southwest Louisiana Sunday night, putting pipes, plants, and pets at risk. Forecasters warn of dangerously low temperatures lasting into Thursday, with some areas seeing prolonged freezing conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, areas like Lake Charles, Jennings, and DeRidder could see temperatures below freezing for up to 15 hours starting Sunday evening. Residents should prepare immediately by insulating exposed pipes, bringing pets indoors, and covering sensitive plants. Drivers on I-10 are urged to remain cautious, as icy conditions may develop during the early hours of Monday morning.

By Monday night, temperatures are expected to drop further, with some areas near Alexandria experiencing over 20 hours of freezing weather. Snow showers are also possible late Monday into Tuesday, creating potential hazards for commuters.

Daytime highs on Sunday will peak near 46°F under sunny skies, but temperatures will plummet to the mid-20s overnight. Monday and Tuesday will see highs of 33-41°F, with overnight lows dipping as low as 17°F. By Wednesday, conditions will slightly improve with a high of 38°F.
