Albany, NY – Residents in eastern New York and western New England should prepare for snow and dangerous cold starting this weekend. A storm system is forecast to bring light to moderate snowfall Saturday night through Monday, followed by subzero wind chills early next week.
According to the National Weather Service, snow is likely Sunday night, especially in the Capital District, with accumulations of up to several inches possible. After the storm moves out, bitterly cold air will settle over the region Monday night, with wind chills dropping as low as -25°F through Wednesday.
Travelers should exercise caution as icy conditions may develop on key roadways, including Interstate 87 and Route 7, starting Sunday evening. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors during the coldest periods and to prepare by insulating pipes, checking heating systems, and assembling emergency supplies.
The forecast calls for highs near 34°F Friday, dipping to 25°F tonight. Saturday will bring increasing clouds with a high of 38°F before a mix of rain and snow transitions to all snow Saturday night. Sunday’s high will be 27°F, with snow likely into the evening. Monday and Tuesday will see highs of only 20°F and 15°F, respectively, with lows plummeting to 4°F Monday night and -1°F Tuesday night.
