Boonville, NY – A lake effect snow warning remains in place for Northern Oneida County, with heavy snowfall forecast through Wednesday morning. Residents in the region could see accumulations ranging from 6 to 14 inches in the most intense snow bands.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning will stay active until 7 a.m. Wednesday. The heaviest snow is expected during Tuesday’s morning and evening commutes, with conditions varying significantly based on location. Areas beneath the strongest bands will experience whiteout conditions, while nearby locations may see much lighter snowfall.

Travelers should prepare for difficult road conditions throughout the day and evening. Visibility may change rapidly, creating additional hazards. The National Weather Service urges drivers to carry emergency supplies, including a flashlight, food, and water, in case of unexpected delays or emergencies.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the low 20s throughout Tuesday, further complicating road safety with icy conditions. Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions by dialing 511 before heading out.

Lake effect snow can create localized storms with highly variable conditions. Snowfall rates in affected areas could reach several inches per hour at peak intensity. Experts warn that even short trips could be treacherous.

Residents in Northern Oneida County should prepare for significant snow removal efforts in the coming days. Local emergency officials recommend limiting non-essential travel and staying off the roads when visibility drops.
