Marquette, MI – Residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula should prepare for worsening weather as lake effect snow and freezing conditions dominate the week. Snow showers will become more frequent Tuesday evening, intensifying through Wednesday, with icy conditions expected along major roadways like US-41 and M-28.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, patchy drizzle and fog will clear by Monday afternoon, giving way to dropping temperatures. A high of 33°F is forecast for Tuesday, with snow expected after midnight. By New Year’s Day, highs will plummet to 28°F, with gusty northwest winds up to 20 mph and additional lake effect snow.

Drivers should exercise caution, as roads will be slick with accumulating snow and reduced visibility. The forecast indicates scattered snow showers will persist into Thursday, with lows dropping to 16°F. Gusting winds and icy patches will increase the risk of accidents, particularly on stretches near Lake Superior.

Heading into the weekend, conditions will remain frigid, with highs in the teens and lows near 10°F. Snowfall is expected Friday and Saturday, maintaining hazardous conditions across the region. Residents are urged to monitor updates and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snowfall hours.

For safety, ensure your vehicle is stocked with an emergency kit, including blankets and food. Limit outdoor activities as wind chills drop below freezing. Stay updated through the National Weather Service and local advisories.
