Milwaukee, WI – Drivers across southern Wisconsin should exercise caution Monday morning as dense freezing fog reduces visibility and creates slick conditions. A dense fog advisory is in effect until noon, primarily west of I-39, with potential expansion eastward. Temperatures remain below freezing, increasing the risk of ice on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, the freezing fog has already developed across several counties, making travel treacherous. Motorists are advised to reduce speeds, maintain extra following distance, and use low-beam headlights. As temperatures rise above freezing by mid-morning, conditions are expected to improve.
Looking ahead, New Year’s Eve on Tuesday could bring rain and snow to the region. Forecasters predict a high near 39°F with precipitation chances increasing after noon. By New Year’s Day on Wednesday, temperatures will drop sharply, with highs around 29°F and mostly sunny skies.
The extended forecast indicates a colder pattern for the latter half of the week. Thursday and Friday are expected to be sunny but chilly, with highs in the upper 20s and overnight lows dipping into the teens.
Residents planning holiday travel should monitor local weather updates closely, especially for changing road conditions. The National Weather Service encourages preparedness for icy spots and limited visibility through the morning hours today.
