Melbourne, FL – Beachgoers in Central Florida are being urged to stay out of the water today due to dangerous rip currents and rough surf conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a high rip current risk for all Atlantic beaches, warning that even strong swimmers could be swept into deeper water.
According to the NWS, the warning applies to beaches from Volusia County to Martin County and will remain in effect through tonight. Rip currents are strong channels of water flowing away from shore, often forming near sandbars or piers. Residents and visitors should heed posted signs, avoid entering the surf, and follow advice from lifeguards.
Today’s weather also includes foggy conditions, with visibility as low as 0.25 miles near Melbourne. Morning travelers should exercise caution, especially on major roadways like I-95. Highs will reach 77°F, with a 30% chance of showers in the afternoon.
Looking ahead, the weekend forecast predicts slight chances of rain Saturday, followed by increasing rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, impacting post-Christmas travel. Highs will hover in the mid-70s through Tuesday, with conditions clearing by Monday.
Holiday travelers should stay updated on weather alerts and be prepared for delays due to fog, rain, or marine hazards. Avoid swimming in hazardous waters, and monitor forecasts for safe travel.
