Fort Myers, FL – A Florida man faces charges after allegedly threatening a driver with a machete during a road rage incident.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to a disturbance Tuesday at the intersection of Via Rapallo Drive and Via Villagio Parkways. Deputies met with the victim, who reported a frightening altercation lasting several blocks.
Authorities say Phillip Mark Zmijewski, 33, tailgated the victim’s vehicle, flashing his lights aggressively before stopping at the intersection. Zmijewski then exited his car, wielding a machete, and allegedly approached the victim, creating fear for their life.
Zmijewski fled before law enforcement arrived. Deputies, however, quickly located him based on the victim’s description. Reports indicate Zmijewski immediately acknowledged the situation upon being found.
Deputies arrested Zmijewski for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a serious felony charge. The sheriff’s office reminded residents that road rage and violence will not be tolerated.
“Safety on our roads is a priority,” said Sheriff Carmine Marceno. “No driver should fear for their life.”
Authorities urge drivers to remain calm during disputes and contact law enforcement when needed.
