Newport, NC – A mild start to the week is expected across eastern North Carolina, with isolated showers and breezy conditions forecasted along coastal areas. Temperatures will climb from the mid-50s to low-60s today, with northeast winds adding a chill through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday brings a slight chance of showers between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., with a high near 63 degrees. Winds will remain out of the northeast at 6 to 9 mph, with gusts reaching 15 mph. Any rainfall will be light, with a 20% chance of precipitation.

Monday’s forecast shows improvement as the sun returns after morning showers. Highs are expected to reach 71 degrees, with calm southeast winds in the afternoon. While the start of the workweek looks pleasant, cloud cover will increase Monday night, with lows around 54 degrees.

By midweek, chances for rain pick up again. Tuesday will see mostly sunny skies, but isolated showers could develop in the evening with a 20% chance of precipitation. Wednesday brings the highest chance of rain for the week, with showers likely (60%) and temperatures peaking near 70 degrees.

Residents along U.S. 70 and coastal communities are advised to monitor updated forecasts, as winds may remain breezy and rain could impact travel plans. Take precautions when driving through light rain and allow extra time during morning commutes.

The extended forecast for Thursday suggests a mix of sun and clouds, with highs cooling slightly into the low 60s. Dry, mild weather is expected to close out the week, offering relief from early-week showers.
