According to the NWS, a hazardous weather outlook is in effect for Pittsburgh and surrounding areas today, with freezing rain possible before noon. Rainfall will intensify by the afternoon, with an 80% chance of precipitation and new accumulation between a tenth and a quarter of an inch. Drivers are urged to exercise caution during the morning commute as icy patches may develop on local roadways, including major routes such as I-376 and I-79.
The system will bring milder temperatures Monday, with highs reaching near 56°F. However, rain will persist, becoming heavy in the evening with gusty winds up to 21 mph. Overnight rain accumulation may total up to half an inch, potentially impacting visibility and road safety.
Tuesday offers a brief reprieve with partly sunny skies and highs near 50°F. Winds will calm, providing a break in the otherwise damp week. By Wednesday, rain returns with a 70% chance of precipitation and a slight risk of rain mixing with snow overnight as temperatures drop to 29°F.
Residents are advised to monitor forecasts closely and prepare for changing road conditions through midweek. Use extra caution on bridges, overpasses, and untreated surfaces during early morning and late-night travel.
