Melbourne, FL – Central Florida is under a severe weather alert today as a cold front brings storms, gusty winds, and a potential tornado risk to the region.

The National Weather Service forecasts storms developing midday and lasting through the afternoon, particularly along and north of the I-4 corridor. Damaging winds up to 50 mph, frequent lightning, and brief heavy downpours are expected. Additionally, there is a slight chance of a tornado forming, posing a heightened risk for residents in affected areas.

Drivers should exercise caution, especially near open roadways, as gusty winds may create hazardous travel conditions. Coastal residents should also remain aware of strong rip currents and dangerous seas, making beach activities unsafe today.

As the storms clear, cooler air will settle across the region tonight, with temperatures plummeting into the 40s for most areas and upper 30s farther northwest. Breezy northwest winds will add to the chill, creating a sharp contrast to the recent warmth.

Thursday will bring sunny skies and calmer conditions, with highs in the upper 60s. The cooler trend will continue into the weekend, offering dry and mild weather through Saturday.
