Blackburg, VA – Residents across Virginia should prepare for a wet start to the week, with heavy rain likely through Tuesday evening and colder air bringing snow showers by Wednesday. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned of up to two inches of rain in areas east of the Blue Ridge, followed by dropping temperatures and gusty winds midweek.
According to the NWS, Monday’s forecast includes periods of rain, with highs near 56 degrees and clearing skies by late morning. Showers are expected to return Tuesday morning, with patchy fog and a slight chance of heavier rainfall into the evening. Commuters should expect slick roads, particularly along the I-81 corridor and nearby mountain passes, as temperatures begin to drop sharply by Tuesday night.
By Wednesday, colder air will move into the region, turning rain into snow showers across higher elevations. Highs will reach only the upper 40s, with lows plunging into the low 20s overnight. Winds could become gusty, making travel conditions even more hazardous. Drivers are encouraged to check local road conditions and ensure vehicles are winter-ready.
Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday bring calmer weather, with sunny skies but freezing temperatures. Highs will hover near 32 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the teens. Residents should prepare for icy conditions and bundle up when heading outdoors.
