Jacksonville, FL – A freeze warning remains in effect across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia as sub-freezing temperatures dip as low as 30 degrees early Sunday morning. Residents are urged to take immediate action to safeguard vulnerable plants, outdoor pets, and exposed water pipes.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville, the freeze warning is active from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Sunday, impacting areas along the I-95 corridor, including Jacksonville, St. Augustine, and Folkston, GA. Widespread frost is expected in inland areas. The NWS advises wrapping outdoor pipes, bringing pets indoors, and covering sensitive plants to minimize damage.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly Sunday afternoon, with highs reaching the upper 60s under sunny skies. Overnight Sunday into Monday, lows will again hover near freezing, particularly in inland regions. By midweek, a warming trend will bring highs into the mid-70s, alleviating frost concerns temporarily.
Looking ahead, rain chances remain low through Monday, with clear skies dominating the extended forecast. Residents can expect milder overnight temperatures by Tuesday. However, officials urge ongoing caution, especially for agriculture-dependent areas and outdoor animal care facilities.
