Peoria, IL – A 48-year-old woman was shot and killed in Peoria’s 600 block of E. Republic Street on Sunday evening. Peoria police responded to a ShotSpotter alert for 10 gunshots around 5:25 p.m.
Officers found the woman with gunshot wounds and attempted life-saving measures. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity remains withheld pending an autopsy by the Peoria County Coroner.
Minutes later, at 5:53 p.m., officers responded to another shooting in the 3500 block of Sodus Court. They located a 63-year-old man with a gunshot wound, who was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect in both shootings was identified as 27-year-old Kenten T. Watkins Jr. Watkins was later found in a driveway on Sodus Court with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers pronounced him dead at the scene.
All incidents remain under investigation.
