Hanford, CA – A significant snowfall is forecast to impact California’s High Sierra region beginning Sunday, with accumulation expected to peak around Veterans Day. The National Weather Service warns of potential travel disruptions and hazardous conditions, particularly at elevations above 7,000 feet, where snowfall probabilities range from 30 to 55 percent. This winter weather event could bring more than three inches of snow, posing risks for holiday travelers.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, snow accumulations are likely to start Sunday afternoon, intensifying through Monday and possibly continuing into Tuesday morning. Forecast models suggest the heaviest snowfall will occur in the higher elevations, where visibility may be severely reduced, and roadways could become treacherous. Travelers are urged to exercise caution and check updated forecasts before heading into mountain regions.

The forecast for the Hanford area indicates mostly clear and dry conditions through Sunday with daytime highs near 71 degrees. However, rain is expected to move in by late Monday with a 50 percent chance of showers, which could lower temperatures and bring cooler conditions through midweek. Veterans Day on Monday will see temperatures peak at around 70 degrees before rain becomes likely by evening.

Looking ahead, temperatures in the Hanford region are expected to remain cool, with highs in the low 60s on Tuesday and continued clear skies through Wednesday. Residents and visitors are advised to monitor weather updates, especially if planning travel to or near the High Sierra, and to prepare for potential delays or detours due to snowy conditions.
