Arkansas residents should prepare for a wet and potentially hazardous weekend as a cold front brings heavy rain and thunderstorms. Forecasters warn of flash flooding risk starting Sunday, with rainfall expected to reach up to three inches in some areas. Travelers, especially those using Interstate 40, should stay updated on road conditions and avoid driving through flooded zones.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, showers and isolated thunderstorms are likely through Sunday as the front approaches from the Plains. Rainfall will start early Sunday morning, with the heaviest downpours anticipated in central and southern Arkansas. Localized flash flooding is possible, particularly in low-lying areas and along rivers and streams, where water levels may rise quickly.

For residents observing Veterans Day on Monday, weather conditions are set to improve, with mostly sunny skies and highs around 71°F. However, travelers are advised to monitor the weather Sunday evening if commuting for events on Monday, as conditions could impact travel plans.

Looking at the five-day forecast, Sunday brings highs of 73°F, accompanied by strong thunderstorms in the morning, clearing to partly sunny skies by afternoon. After a calm, mostly clear night with a low near 51°F, Veterans Day Monday will feature pleasant, sunny weather. This trend continues with highs in the 60s on Tuesday and Wednesday, though another round of showers is possible by midweek.
