Burlington, VT – Vermont residents experienced record-breaking warmth on Halloween, as temperatures in Burlington and surrounding cities soared to unexpected highs. Burlington recorded 77 degrees on Thursday, shattering the previous 2019 record of 71. Other cities, including Plattsburgh, NY, reached 83 degrees, marking the highest Halloween temperature since 1946. This unseasonable warmth, however, will give way to cooler, rainy conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, a cold front is sweeping through the region today, bringing a significant temperature drop and rain showers. The front is expected to slide east by Friday afternoon, with a chance of showers starting early and continuing intermittently through the day. Commuters on I-89 should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility during the morning and late-afternoon drives.

By Saturday, the forecast predicts sunny skies and a high near 46 degrees, marking a sharp contrast from Thursday’s warmth. Residents can expect calm but chilly conditions to continue through the weekend, with Saturday night temperatures dipping to around 28 degrees. Sunday brings another sunny day, with highs reaching only 48 degrees, a notable cooldown from the week’s start.

Looking ahead, the next chance for rain arrives Monday afternoon, accompanied by a high of 50 degrees. Southeast winds could reach gusts up to 30 mph, and rain chances increase to 80% by Monday night. Tuesday will stay mostly cloudy with high temperatures near 64 degrees.

As the warm spell fades, locals should brace for chillier conditions in early November. Layer up and prepare for the seasonable shift as Vermont transitions firmly into fall.
