Medford, OR – A powerful winter storm is set to impact Oregon’s Cascades, with snowfall beginning Wednesday afternoon and lasting through late Friday. Forecasters predict 1-2 feet of snow at elevations above 5,000 feet, posing travel risks and potentially hazardous road conditions.

The National Weather Service warns of heavy snowfall rates, which could reach up to one inch per hour, especially between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Wednesday. These intense snowfall rates have a 60% to 80% probability of impacting travel, making conditions challenging on Highways 230, 62, 138, and Highway 58 at Willamette Pass.

Key areas, including Crater Lake National Park and Diamond Lake, are expected to see significant accumulation. The storm may create low visibility and slippery conditions, especially along mountain passes. Officials urge travelers to monitor weather updates and consider alternate routes as conditions worsen.

Additional weather updates for Thursday and Friday are anticipated. Drivers are advised to exercise caution and prepare for winter weather conditions if traveling in the region.
