Champaign, IL – Despite extensive surveillance with over 2,400 security cameras across campus, burglars targeted a University of Illinois fraternity house early Sunday morning. The incident occurred at a residence on the 1100 Block of Fourth Street in Champaign around 2 a.m., where two male suspects reportedly entered without forced entry and began wandering through the property.

When residents confronted the suspects, the situation escalated, and one resident was physically assaulted. University Police responded to the incident and have since increased patrols in the area to enhance campus security.

The University of Illinois urges students to remain cautious, recommending actions like locking doors, securing valuables, and reporting any unusual activity promptly. Despite the comprehensive security measures, police emphasize the importance of community vigilance to ensure campus safety. They encourage those with information on this incident to contact University Police or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

University officials also highlight available resources, including the Connie Frank CARE Center and the Emergency Dean Program, to support students impacted by safety concerns on campus.
