Sioux Falls, SD – Dry and windy conditions across South Dakota will elevate the fire risk today, especially near and south of I-90, where gusts could reach 30 mph. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns that warm temperatures and strong winds will increase the potential for fire outbreaks through this evening.
Light showers are possible later today, particularly south of Sioux Falls. According to the NWS, spotty rain and a few thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon and evening hours, though rainfall amounts are expected to remain light, with accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch. Highs will reach near 80 degrees in Sioux Falls, but a cold front moving through overnight will bring cooler weather by midweek.
Tuesday will see highs drop to 77 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with winds calming to 10 mph. Another front will arrive Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures in the low 60s and a slight chance of overnight showers.
Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning due to the elevated fire risk, and to secure loose items ahead of gusty winds.
