Gaylord, MI – Northern Michigan is under a Fire Weather Watch from Friday morning through Friday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Gaylord has issued this alert due to expected dry conditions and gusty winds.

According to the NWS, southwest winds will range from 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, shifting to the northwest by Friday evening. The region will see temperatures in the mid-70s, and humidity could drop as low as 30%. These conditions increase the risk of rapid fire spread, particularly along and east of the US-27 corridor.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged during this period. For more information on burn restrictions, residents should visit the Michigan Department of Natural Resources website or call their burn permit hotline.

Residents should remain vigilant and listen for potential updates, including Red Flag Warnings, which may follow. Local authorities advise precautionary measures to avoid igniting fires outdoors.
