Pittsburgh, PA – Southwestern Pennsylvania residents are preparing for a round of severe weather on Sunday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of isolated tornadoes and large hail as part of the storm system moving through the region.
The storms are expected to hit during the late afternoon, around 5 p.m., and could persist into the evening. The NWS has issued a Level 2 alert for the area, indicating that some of the storms could become severe, with damaging winds and large hail also posing a threat.
According to the NWS, areas between Pittsburgh and the Ohio border are at the highest risk. Officials are advising residents to secure outdoor furniture, vehicles, and other belongings that could be damaged by high winds or hail.
“People should be prepared for changing conditions,” the NWS stated. “Monitor local media and have a reliable way to receive warnings.”
Southwestern Pennsylvania residents should also be aware of the potential for isolated tornadoes, which could develop quickly. Power outages are also a possibility due to high winds or falling tree branches.
