Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit southern Missouri and southern Illinois this evening, bringing the potential for damaging winds, large hail, and possibly a tornado. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a severe weather alert, warning residents to be prepared for storm conditions between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., when the storms are likely to be at their strongest. While tornado potential is low, the storms could produce wind speeds up to 70 mph and hail the size of golf balls.

The NWS advises residents to monitor weather updates throughout the evening as the situation could change rapidly. Those in the affected areas are encouraged to take precautions, such as securing loose objects and vehicles, to minimize damage. Although tornadoes are not the primary concern, the risk cannot be entirely ruled out, so having an emergency plan in place is essential. Stay alert and informed as the severe weather moves through the region tonight.
