Pocatello, ID – Scattered thunderstorms are expected across Idaho today, prompting a Red Flag Warning for areas most susceptible to wildfire outbreaks due to lightning. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Pocatello has issued the warning, emphasizing the heightened risk for new fire starts in central Idaho.
According to the NWS, rain chances are highest this afternoon, particularly in areas like Yellow Pine (82%), Ketchum (63%), and Hailey (51%). As thunderstorms roll in, areas under the Red Flag Warning, including Stanley, Galena, and Challis, are at the greatest risk for fire due to dry conditions and potential lightning strikes.
The weekend outlook shows a shift towards warmer and drier conditions. Pocatello will see temperatures climb from 87°F today to a high of 93°F by Saturday. The rest of the state will experience similar conditions, with highs ranging from 88°F to 93°F. Sunshine will dominate the forecast from Friday through Tuesday, with no significant precipitation expected.
Residents are advised to stay alert for changing weather conditions, particularly in areas under the Red Flag Warning. As temperatures rise and storm activity subsides, fire risks will remain high throughout the weekend.
