Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico is preparing for a significant heatwave that is expected to bring record-breaking temperatures across central and eastern regions this weekend, extending into the middle of next week. Residents should be on high alert, especially in areas like Roswell, where temperatures are forecasted to reach as high as 104°F on Saturday.
The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has warned that temperatures will consistently soar into the upper 90s and low 100s across much of the state. Albuquerque itself is expected to see temperatures climb from 95°F today to 98°F on Friday and Saturday, with slightly cooler conditions near 96°F on Sunday and Monday. The prolonged heat is expected to elevate the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for vulnerable groups, including the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
As the heatwave intensifies, residents are urged to take precautions such as staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities, and checking on neighbors, particularly those who may be at higher risk. Authorities also caution against leaving children or pets in parked vehicles, as temperatures inside can quickly become life-threatening.
