Madison, WI – A Madison man has been charged following a disruptive incident that took place last fall at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. On November 28, 2023, three men entered the Humanities Building on the UW-Madison campus and disrupted a student organization meeting with threats, racist comments, and offensive language, causing significant distress among students.
According to the UW-Madison Police Department, Lukas Nowak, 20, of Madison, has been charged with multiple offenses, including one count of allegedly making terrorist threats, a charge that includes a hate crime enhancer. Additionally, Nowak faces one count of disorderly conduct involving the use of a dangerous weapon, also with a hate crime enhancer, and two more counts of disorderly conduct, both carrying hate crime enhancers.
The incident was swiftly investigated, with the suspects quickly identified as not being affiliated with the university. A partnership between the UW-Madison Police, the FBI, and the City of Madison Police Department led to Nowak’s arrest and formal charges.
Nowak made his initial court appearance on Monday, August 12, 2024, where his bail conditions included a ban from entering the UW-Madison campus, ensuring he will not return to the scene of the incident.
