This afternoon, highs across the Panhandle will range from the mid-90s to the lower 100s. Amarillo itself is forecast to hit 99 degrees, while other areas such as Borger and Clarendon are expected to see temperatures surpassing 100 degrees.
The heatwave is anticipated to continue through the weekend, with temperatures steadily climbing. By Saturday, Amarillo could see highs of 101 degrees, and similar scorching conditions are expected on Sunday. Even the cooler spots, like Guymon and Boise City, will experience temperatures in the mid to high 90s.
Residents are advised to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The National Weather Service recommends staying hydrated, avoiding strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat hours, and wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing.
