Provo, UT – Residents in Provo and surrounding areas should brace for potential flash flooding on Sunday, as an increased threat of heavy rainfall is forecast across central and southern Utah. A flood watch will be in effect from noon to midnight, with conditions expected to impact low-lying areas, slot canyons, and normally dry washes.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Salt Lake City, the forecast calls for excessive rainfall that could result in rapid flooding. The affected areas include the Central Mountains, Capitol Reef National Park, and the Upper Sevier River Valleys. The NWS urges residents to avoid driving across flooded roadways and to seek higher ground if necessary.

The NWS also indicated that the weather pattern is associated with a weak weather disturbance and ample monsoonal moisture, increasing the potential for flash floods. Residents should stay updated on weather alerts and be prepared to take action if flash flood warnings are issued.
