Miami, FL – The Atlantic coast of Florida is on high alert as a new tropical system begins to emerge in the Atlantic Ocean. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has identified a tropical wave, designated AL98, currently positioned between the Cabo Verde Islands and the Lesser Antilles. This system is showing increasing signs of development, potentially becoming a tropical depression within the next week.
According to the NHC, the wave is moving westward to west-northwestward at 15 to 20 mph. Environmental factors in the region are favorable for further development, with a 40 percent chance of the system forming into a tropical depression within the next 48 hours, rising to an 80 percent probability within the next seven days.
Residents along Florida’s Atlantic coast, particularly in areas like Miami, are urged to monitor updates closely as the system progresses. The tropical wave could approach the Lesser Antilles by mid-next week and may impact the Florida coastline later in the week.
