Shreveport, LA – An intense heatwave is gripping Shreveport and surrounding areas, with temperatures forecasted to reach dangerously high levels. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning and Heat Advisory, urging residents to take precautions as the heat index could soar up to 112 degrees today.
Highs for today are expected to climb into the upper 90s, with some areas potentially hitting triple digits. Shreveport is forecasted to reach 98°F, with similar scorching temperatures predicted across the region, including 100°F in Tyler, TX, and 99°F in Texarkana, TX. These conditions are expected to persist into the weekend, with Saturday’s high also near 97°F.
According to the National Weather Service, the extreme heat poses significant risks, including heat exhaustion and heat stroke, particularly for those engaged in outdoor activities. The risk is further elevated due to the potential for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, which may offer brief relief but could also increase humidity levels.
Looking ahead, the forecast shows slightly lower but still hot temperatures, with Sunday expected to reach 95°F and Monday rising again to 96°F. The heatwave will likely continue into next week, with temperatures hovering in the mid to upper 90s.
