A few showers and storms linger over central and southern Iowa into midday, gradually clearing by the evening. Smoke aloft may continue to produce red or orange-tinted sunsets and sunrises. According to the US National Weather Service Des Moines, mainly dry conditions are expected into early Sunday before shower and storm chances return later Sunday into Monday.
Temperatures will continue to warm into the weekend, with highs reaching the upper 80s today and approaching the low 90s by Sunday, mainly in the west and south. Friday and Saturday will see partly to mostly sunny skies, with highs ranging from 82 to 91 degrees, accompanied by increasing humidity.
Sunday’s weather will be warm and humid, with highs between 85 and 93 degrees. Storm chances will return in the evening, extending into Monday. The air quality index remains moderate at 55, similar to previous days, due to smoke aloft.
For the rest of the week, temperatures will soar into the mid to upper 90s by Wednesday and Thursday, with continued sunny skies and increasing humidity. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and take necessary precautions during outdoor activities, especially as the heat intensifies into the next week.
