Rockford, IL – The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for Winnebago County, effective until 5 p.m. CDT today, due to excessive rainfall from recent thunderstorms.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy rain has already led to up to 1 inch of precipitation, with an additional 0.5 to 1 inch expected. Areas including Rockford, Rockford Airport, Davis Junction, and New Milford are at risk. Flooding may impact creeks, streams, urban areas, and locations with poor drainage.

Residents are advised to exercise caution and avoid floodwaters. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles, so it is crucial to “turn around, don’t drown” when encountering flooded roads. For further information, visit weather.gov.
