Omaha, NE — Nebraska is preparing for a sweltering weekend as temperatures are set to soar. The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Saturday, with a heat index expected to reach between 100° and 109°. An Excessive Heat Watch follows for Sunday and Monday, predicting even higher indices, peaking near 110°.

According to the National Weather Service, Saturday’s forecast calls for high temperatures ranging from 93° to 100°, with morning lows between 67° and 72°. Sunday and Monday will see high temperatures between 95° and 100°, with a heat index ranging from 103° to 112°. Morning lows for these days are expected to be between 70° and 76°.

The extreme heat poses significant health risks, especially for vulnerable populations. The National Weather Service advises reducing time in the sun, staying hydrated, and moving activities to cooler parts of the day. It also suggests using fans to keep air circulating and opening windows overnight if air conditioning is unavailable.

With temperatures and humidity levels both high, outdoor activities are strongly discouraged. Those needing to be outside should take frequent breaks, seek shade, and drink plenty of water to stay safe. Emergency services are on alert to respond to heat-related incidents.
