Shreveport, LA – The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings of severe weather conditions for Louisiana and Arkansas this Independence Day weekend. Today, the region will experience isolated to widely scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly affecting South Central Arkansas and North Central Louisiana.

According to the NWS, the chance of precipitation varies, with up to 50% likelihood in some areas. Residents in cities like Shreveport, Natchitoches, and Monroe can expect these scattered storms throughout the day.

In addition to thunderstorms, a significant heat wave is sweeping across the region. The NWS has issued an Excessive Heat Warning for parts of Arkansas, where heat indices are expected to reach or exceed 110 degrees. Meanwhile, a Heat Advisory is in place for other areas with indices between 105 and 109 degrees. These extreme temperatures pose serious health risks, urging residents to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun.

The forecast for Shreveport shows temperatures peaking at 97 degrees today, with a 45% chance of rain on Friday and highs in the 90s through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will see temperatures around 91 and 89 degrees, respectively, with partly cloudy skies. The heat continues into next week, with Monday’s high reaching 91 degrees.
