Lincoln, IL – Temperatures soared across central Illinois on Monday, with several locations recording highs significantly above normal for this time of year. Cities such as Lawrenceville and Mount Carmel experienced temperatures of 97°F and 96°F, respectively. These readings are about 10-12 degrees warmer than typical June temperatures.
According to the National Weather Service Central Illinois, the heat will persist through the week with temperatures hovering around 90°F. Peak heat indices are expected to reach the mid to upper 90s, with isolated showers or storms possible. The forecast for Tuesday includes highs ranging from 88-92°F, with heat indices between 93-100°F.
Wednesday and Thursday will continue the hot trend, with expected highs of 90-95°F and heat indices reaching 96-104°F. Although most of the week will remain dry, there is a chance for isolated storms today, tomorrow, and again on Saturday evening.
By Friday, the forecast predicts temperatures of 93-98°F, while Saturday might see the hottest day of the week with highs potentially reaching 94-97°F and heat indices up to 110°F. Central Illinois residents are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses as the heatwave continues into the weekend.
